Combining classic proportions with modern sportiness, the new BMW Z4 has reached the top of its market segment almost overnight. And now this charismatic roadster is entering a new dimension in driving dynamics, the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is offering an even higher standard of performance ensured both by the modified straight-six power unit with BMW Twin Turbo Technology and High Precision Injection, on the one hand, and by BMW's seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation and the M Sports Package including the adaptive M Suspension likewise featured as standard, on the other. Appropriate optimisation in engine technology increases maximum output of the 3.0-litre power unit to 250 kW/340 hp. Peak torque is 450 Newton-metres/332 lb-ft, increasing briefly with the Overboost function to 500 Newton-metres/369 lb-ft. The outstanding power and performance of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is expressed in particular by the significant increase in pulling power and muscle to be clearly experienced in all situations. In conjunction with seven-speed Sport Automatic featuring double clutch operation, this new top-of-the-range

Roadster accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds.
At 9.0 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 26.1 mpg US) and 210 grams in the EU test cycle, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are the same as on the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Sport Automatic.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is making its world debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. And parallel to the market launch of this high-performance roadster in spring 2010, the M Sports Package is being introduced for all further versions of the BMW Z4.

More air, more boost, more torque, more driving pleasure.
The twin-turbo straight-six power unit already giving the BMW Z4 sDrive35i truly impressive dynamics and all-round performance is characterised in particular by its spontaneous and direct response to the gas pedal, fascinating free-revving performance, and unusually economical use of fuel for a car in this class.

Now the outstanding potential of this power unit is being put to even greater use in the new version of the BMW Roadster, features such as optimised air supply and increased boost pressure ensuring an even better flow of power with the same high standard of efficiency.

The combination of BMW Twin Turbo Technology and High Precision Injection offers a level of performance a naturally-aspirated power unit would only be able to provide with a larger number of cylinders and extra displacement, meaning far higher weight and significantly greater fuel consumption.

Instead, the BMW Twin Turbo power unit uses two small turbochargers which, through their low inertia, cut in from the start at relatively low engine speeds, each supplying three cylinders with compressed air. As a result, power and performance are built up with a level of spontaneity quite unusual on a turbocharged engine. The turbocharger system developed for the power unit of the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is maintains a high boost pressure throughout the entire load range. Peak torque now increased to 450 Newton-metres or 332 lb-ft comes from a low 1,400 rpm and is maintained consistently all the way to 4,500 rpm. Maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp, in turn, is delivered at 5,800 rpm.

Overboost function for particularly dynamic acceleration.
Modified engine management on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is also allows the use of an Overboost function briefly increasing engine torque under full load by another 50 Newton-metres or 37 lb-ft. The peak thus offered of 500 Newton-metres/369 lb-ft gives the car particularly fast, dynamic and powerful acceleration, the BMW Z4 sDrive35is completing the sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds.

Through its particular characteristics, the power unit offers a particularly intense experience of this supreme performance. The extra output of the optimized six-cylinder is maintained consistently throughout all load ranges, above all under very dynamic driving conditions.

When accelerating in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the driver feels the additional torque and muscle particularly at medium and high engine speeds. Following the policy of the BMW Group, finally, top speed of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is limited electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

High Precision Injection: the efficient way to supreme performance.
The BMW Z4 sDrive35is offers its outstanding power and performance consistently at all times. But this does not mean an increase in fuel consumption and emissions. On the contrary - averaging fuel consumption of 9.0 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 26.1 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 210 grams per kilometre in the EU test cycle, the new top model offers the same superiority also in this respect as the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Sport Automatic.

This unusually good balance of performance and fuel consumption results from the fundamental design and layout of the six-cylinder combining BMW Twin Turbo Technology with High Precision Injection. So once again, the qualities of direct gasoline injection featured in this engine come out very clearly, piezo-injectors positioned in the cylinder head between the valves and therefore in the immediate vicinity of the spark plugs ensuring particularly precise dosage of fuel and a clean combustion process.

Opening up to the outside, the injectors operate at a pressure of up to 200 bar, distributing fuel in a conical spray pattern throughout the entire combustion chamber. A further advantage of such direct fuel injection is the cooling effect allowing higher compression and making the combustion process even more efficient.

Through their concept alone, the turbochargers likewise help to reduce fuel consumption. Since the turbines are made of special steel particularly resistant to high temperatures and therefore able to cope with temperatures of more than 1,000° C or 1,830° F, there is no need for an increased fuel supply with its cooling effect. Particularly under full load, this ensures a significant advantagein fuel economy.

Further technologies offered as standard by BMW EfficientDynamics such as Brake Energy Regeneration, EPS Electric Power Steering and on-demand control and management of ancillary units likewise help to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.

Characteristic engine sound accompanying the dynamic surge of power.
The modified six-cylinder also comes with special features on the engine block itself in the interest of even greater strength and stiffness. The exhaust system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, in turn, has been developed specifically for this model, appropriate sound engineering giving the car a very characteristic and truly impressive sound pattern.

This particular distinction tailored to the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is ensured by special sound flaps and modifications on the silencers. The driver and passenger therefore experience powerful acoustic feedback to their wish for performance, without the sound of the engine becoming obtrusive, let alone annoying, at any time. So the sound experience is characterised by a particularly deep rumble with the focus above all on the low frequency range.

Seven-speed Sport Automatic with a special control map and an optimised two-mass flywheel.
The seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation featured in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is likewise offers the very best in driving dynamics and efficiency. A particular highlight in this case is the two-mass flywheel laid out particularly for an even higher level of power and performance, offering even greater strength and stability and naturally handling high engine torque of up to 500 Newton-metres or 369 lb-ft without the slightest problem.

The seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation shifts gears without the slightest interruption of torque and engine power, offering the driver the choice of an automatic gearshift or the manual selection of gears. The fast and particularly smooth change of gears ensures unusually harmonious acceleration and serves in addition to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.

The control map on the seven-speed Sport Automatic transmission with double clutch has naturally been tailored to the particular power and performance of the engine, thus further enhancing the superior sportiness of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is to an even higher level. Particularly when shifting gears manually and in conjunction with the SPORT and SPORT+ modes of Dynamic Driving Control, the transmission offers a most dynamic experience through modified gearshift points, optimised selection of gears and an even greater increase in torque before shifting.

Sport Automatic also comes with a Launch Control function for maximum performance when accelerating from a standstill.

The Sport Automatic transmission is controlled and masterminded by an electronic gear selector on the centre console and comes with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

Featured as standard on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is: M Sports Package and adaptive M Suspension.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is also comes as standard with an M Sports Package including the M Aerodynamics Package and adaptive M Suspension featuring electronically controlled dampers for even greater agility without making any concessions in terms of comfort. The M Sports Package underlines the dynamic character of the car through its aerodynamically optimised exterior features and customised interior design. Special 18-inch light-alloy rims in five-spoke design combined with tyres of different size front and rear round off the sporting character of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, with 19-inch light-alloy rims available an option.

The adaptive M Suspension lowers the entire car by 10 millimetres or almost 0.4", ensuring a quick reaction to sudden steering manoeuvres and superior precision when entering a bend thanks to four continuously adjustable twin-sleeve gas-pressure dampers with interacting adjustment of the inbound and rebound strokes. The central control unit processing data delivered by three accelerometers and adjusting the four dampers independently of one another enables the suspension to respond very quickly to even the slightest change in driving and road conditions. Damper harshness, in turn, is adjusted by externally fitted valves controlling the flow of damper fluid, giving the dampers either a harder or softer set-up in accordance with current conditions and driving requirements. Reaction time of the system is extremely short, with the rear dampers being adjusted immediately as soon as the front wheels run over a hole or bump in the road.

Electric Power Steering on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is features a particularly sporting and dynamic control map, with the focus on intense and clear feedback to the driver through the dosage of power assistance provided by the electric motor. Again, this enables the driver to enter bends with extreme precision at all engine speeds in the interest of enhanced performance.

M Sports Package offering a most direct experience of the car's dynamic potential - and available as an option also on the other models in the range.

The exterior and interior features of the M Sports Package coming as standard on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is raises the dynamic driving potential of the car to an even higher level and clearly presents the particular qualities of this model through its looks alone.

Upon introduction of the new top model in the range, the M Sports Package is also becoming available as an option on the other versions of BMW's unique Roadster. The only difference is that instead of the wheels exclusive to the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the other models come with 18-inch M light-alloy wheels on the M Sports Package.

The particular exterior features on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is include a striking front bumper with a horizontal trim bar in the outer air intakes finished in matt aluminium, like the bars in the BMW kidney grille. The slightly twisted contours of these trim bars take up the spoke design of the light-alloy rims as a further sign of distinction.

The rear bumper comes with specially accentuated surrounds on the exhaust tailpipes as well as a two-piece diffuser again created specifically for the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, finished at the top in body colour and featuring a black grained surface at the bottom. The M Aerodynamics Package included in the optional M Sports Package also on the other versions of the BMW Z4 Roadster furthermore comes with a rear bumper insert in Anthracite metallic.

Inside the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the driving experience is enhanced to an even higher standard by features such as the M leather steering wheel with its gearshift paddles, an M footrest and sports seats. The instrument cluster comes with grey faces on the dials and the "sDrive35is" model designation in the instrument cluster.

Further features inside the BMW Z4 sDrive35is are the Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof lining, M entry strips, footmats with coloured piping and the "sDrive35is" model designation, as well as M interior trim in Aluminium carbon.

The M Sports Package on the other versions of the BMW Z4 Roadster includes an M gearshift lever knob in leather on the manual gearbox models. At the same time the range of leather upholstery is being further enhanced by an additional colour variant marking the launch of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is: Both the top model and all other versions of the BMW Z4 Roadster are now also available in Kansas Walnut leather as yet a further option.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is comes with a choice of six paintwork colours. In addition to Alpine White and the metallic colours Titanium Silver, Sapphire Black, Space Grey and Deep Sea Blue, the BMW Z4 Roadster is now available for the first time in Melbourne Red metallic.

Regardless of the colour chosen, the exterior mirror caps on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is always come in Oxide Silver. Another optical feature on the top model, finally, is the "sDrive35is" model designation on the front side panels.

Smart and Economical Cars of Our Time

Japanese cars! Yes, if your question was what are some cars that can save me money? I have the answer right here. Take a look at Tokyo Japan for example. They use new technology which is pads that people walk on in downtown and this generates electricity. The city is very densely populated and people there drive economical cars. Small cars such as Honda civic hatchbacks, Nissan Versas, smart cars, Acuras, and so on. Gas prices in Japan according to the CNN chart as of right now 5/4/10 are 4.25 USD per gallon. Now for us this may not seem like a big deal but remember in Japan the minimum wage is about $40 to $55 per day. I am guessing in America an average worker who works an 8 hour day and receives 8.40 an hour is going to get around $68 dollars. You can see the difference in earnings easily.

Moving on, Japanese cars are very reliable (if taken care of) and can last usually over 200,000 miles. Now there is a good example of stretching your dollar. Plus an advantage to Japanese cars is how much modification, performance, and details you can put into the car. Secondly, "Honda has made over 50 million vetch engines and have never failed". -Top gear Jeremy) Looking at reality into the future I am guessing that gas prices will go up, as well as electricity rates, and food costs. Its wiser to have something that you can maintain easily like oil changes, brakes, and tires, and these are really easy to change with Japanese cars. Really it's a breeze to own a Jap car and simple to maintain. So next time your in the market for cars, get a Jap car!

Paris Show 2010 Highlights: 2011 Chevrolet Orlando

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off its striking new Orlando MPV at the Paris motor show.

The compact seven-seat crossover MPV was first seen as a concept in Paris two years ago and much of that car’s styling has made it into the production version that will reach UK showrooms in early 2011.

Although some of the concept’s sharper lines at the front have been rounded off, much of the rear three-quarters of the concept remains unchanged, including its sloping window line and narrow glasshouse, while its pronounced wheel arches can house alloys up to 18 inches in size.

The Orlando uses General Motors' Delta platform, also seen on the new Vauxhall Astra and Chevrolet’s new Cruze range. Its UK engine line-up includes a 139bhp 1.8-litre petrol unit and a 2.0-litre diesel with either 129bhp or 161bhp.

Chevrolet claims its dual cockpit is inspired by the Corvette and features the firm’s new blue-backlit centre console.

The load area is described as “generous”, while the rear two rows of seats are raised, in spite of the low roofline, in a theatre-style arrangement to give rear passengers a better forward and side view. As in the norm in the class, there's a variety of seating configurations to boost load capacity.

Several storage compartments are offered, including the concept’s storage area hidden behind the front fascia of the audio system; this is revealed by flipping the face of the audio and is described as a “usefully large area”. The Orlando also offers USB, MP3 and iPod connectivity.

Paris Show 2010 Highlights: Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback Concept

Meet the Cruze that’s hatching big plans in Europe! This compact version of the Cruze was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, and is the second of four new cars that will feature on the American firm’s stand.

The Cruze hatchback will join the Orlando, as well as a facelift of the Captiva SUV and a new version of the Aveo. The fastback design has an almost Japanese flavour, and the car looks similar to the Subaru Impreza in profile, although the big wheels and LED running lights from the show car are likely to be dropped from the production model.

The Cruze saloon has recently overtaken the Aveo to become Chevrolet’s best selling car globally, so to broaden its appeal and further boost sales this new hatch is set to offer great value for money and compete with the likes of the Kia C’eed and Hyundai i30.

The hatch will offer nearly 400 litres of boot space, and although that’s 50 less than the saloon, a 60/40 folding seat arrangement and bigger load space should ensure this is the most practical Cruze yet.

Wayne Brannon, Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe, said that by offering a hatch back variant they were “sending out a signal that Chevrolet is now a serious mainstream player in Europe."

The current Cruze comes in S, LS and LT trims, and the new car will continue to offer the familiar line-up of four-pot engines from the saloon. That means either a 1.6 or a 1.8-litre with 112bhp or 139bhp. The diesel option is a 2.0L with 123bhp, and 300Nm of torque.

Prices should remain broadly the same as the current range, although the hatchback could end up costing less than its stable mate, starting at around £13,000 for the 1.6i S when it goes on sale mid-way through next year. For more details click here.

Paris Show 2010 Highlights: 2011 BMW X3

Big on space and big on efficiency! That's BMW's promise for the second-generation X3, and we have first official photos of the X5’s baby brother, which made its European debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Set to hit showrooms in January 2011, the cleanest variants will be capable of returning 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of only 147g/km thanks to the use of stop/start technology and an eight-speed automatic gearbox developed by specialists, ZF.

Achieving 149g/km with a manual gearbox, the entry-level xDrive20d uses a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine producing 181bhp and 380Nm of torque – enough to reach 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 131mph. At launch, the only other model will be the xDrive35i, which is capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 152mph.

The X3 now sports a more robust appearance using elements from the smaller X1 and larger X5, while the body has grown in every dimension except width allowing for improved interior space and wider door openings. Luggage space is increased by 70 litres as a result and can be expanded to 1,600 litres when the rear seats, which split 60:40 or an optional 40:20:40, are folded flat.

Build quality is set to receive a hike in the all-new interior whilst technical gadgetry including a head-up display and internet access will be made available thanks to BMW's ConnectedDrive system. A 6.5-inch colour monitor and the latest generation of iDrive will be standard on all models, although this can be upgraded to a class-leading 8.8-inch high-resolution screen if buyers opt for the Professional Multimedia package.

Under the skin the X3 will feature Variable Damper Control for the first time, allowing drivers to adjust the suspension settings to suit their needs, with Normal, Sport, and Sport+ selected by a button on the dash. Adjustable Electric Power Steering and Dynamic Stability Control further enhance the handling, assisted by double-joint spring-strut front axles and a multi-link rear axle.

Prices start at £30,490 for the xDrive20d, rising to around £36,000 for the xDrive35i.For more details click here.

Paris Show 2010 Highlights: 2011 Audi A7

Audi has unveiled its new A7 at the Paris motor show.

This is the car that Audi hopes will take sales from Mercedes-Benz’s CLS and continue the Ingolstadt firm’s evolution of its ‘big car’ design: the new A7 Sportback.

The A7 Sportback is designed to fill a niche between the A6 and A8. It offers big-car interior packaging for four people, the practicality of a rear hatch, a sizeable boot and what Audi calls a ‘four-door coupé’ shape.

The A7 is 4.97m long and 1.91m wide, which is 17cm shorter and 4cm narrower than the A8. But it sits 4cm lower than Audi’s luxury saloon, at 1.42m. At 2.91 metres, the wheelbase is around 8cm shorter than the regular A8’s, but longer than the current A6’s by a similar amount. It’s likely that the next generation of A6 will sit on the same platform.

The A7 was previewed by a concept at the Detroit show last year, and the production car sticks closely to the show model’s appearance. Its looks are dominated by a deep front grille, a low nose, narrow headlights, a sharp crease that runs along its flanks from nose to tail, and a bootline that tails off quickly, minimising the rear overhang. That last element, and a distinctive lip on the third side window, reference Audi’s 100 Coupé from the 1970s.

The new model will be offered with four V6 engines, all with direct injection, Audi’s thermal management system, stop-start and brake energy recuperation. The petrol units are a 2.8-litre V6 with 201bhp and 207lb ft, and a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 295bhp and 325lb ft.

They are available with a seven-speed S-tronic transmission and quattro four-wheel drive only. In 3.0 TFSI form the A7 can reach 62mph in 5.6sec and go on to a limited top speed of 155mph. The 2.8 emits 187g/km of CO2 and the 3.0 190g/km.

The line-up will include two V6 diesels. The more potent of the pair comes with four-wheel drive and S-tronic only, and it has 241bhp and 369lb ft of torque. That’s enough for the A7 to crack 0-62mph in 6.5sec and reach a maximum of 155mph.

The lower-powered oil-burner, which will arrive soon after the A7 Sportback’s launch, is being positioned as the eco model in the range.

The 201bhp powerplant is available with the same S-tronic/quattro set-up as the other variants, or with the combination of front-wheel drive and Audi’s multitronic CVT transmission.

The appeal of the GTC is further strengthened by the addition of the new 600bhp (610PS) Bentley Continental GTC Speed model. It is Bentley's most powerful convertible ever and inspired by Bentley's legendary 'Speed Models' from the 1920s.

The GTC's chassis and exceptionally rigid steel body have proved more than capable of coping with the power of the 552bhp (560PS) 6-litre W12 engine. For the new Bentley Continental GTC Speed, twin-turbocharged W12 now develops 600bhp (610PS) that delivers true 200 mph (322 km/h) performance, with the roof up, with exhilarating, effortless acceleration. Even with the roof down the Bentley Continental GTC Speed can reach 195 mph (312 km/h).

The Bentley Continental GTC Speed is visually distinguished by subtle design enhancements which emphasise its higher performance credentials. At the front, the radiator and lower air intake grilles feature a dark tinted matrix as standard. Larger diameter 9.5J x 20-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels with Bentley-bespoke Pirelli PZero ultra-high performance (UHP) tyres, lowered and uprated suspension, wider twin-rifled exhaust tail pipes and a new boot-mounted lip spoiler that enhances high speed aerodynamics, reinforce the sporting character of the Speed model.

The GTC Speed's 600bhp (610PS) W12 engine develops 9 per cent more power than the standard GTC. However, it is the 15 per cent increase in torque that really distinguishes the Speed model, which now develops an impressive output of 750 Nm (553lb ft). This is achieved across virtually the complete rev range, from just 1700 to 5600 rev/min, delivering that characteristic Bentley wave of torque.
The 0-60 mph sprint is despatched in a mere 4.5 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds) and 0-100 mph in 10.6 seconds (0-160 km/h in 10.5 seconds).

The enhanced powertrain delivers more power and torque
Both Continental GTC models are powered by Bentley's 6-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine which is produced exclusively at the company's Crewe engine plant. The Bentley W12 is the most compact 12-cylinder engine in production with 48 valves and 4 camshafts with continually variable valve timing. Power is transmitted via a ZF six-speed automatic transmission.

The Bentley Continental GTC Speed is powered by Bentley's W12 engine in its most powerful, 600 bhp (610PS) form. It develops 15 per cent more torque and 9 per cent more power than the 552bhp (560PS) standard Bentley Continental GTC.

The Engine efficiency improvements result from the use of lower friction, lighter-weight components and a new engine management system, while twin, low inertia turbochargers with minimal turbo lag contribute to the W12 engine's flat torque curve. In 600 bhp (610PS) form, the W12 develops a maximum torque of 750 Nm (553 lb ft) from 1700 rev/min all the way up to 5600 rev/min. The GTC Speed engine is visually differentiated by the 'crackle black' finish to the intake manifold.
This endows the Bentley Continental GTC Speed with a top speed of 200mph (322 km/h) with the roof-up and a 0-60mph sprint time of just 4.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.8 secs). It also accelerates from 0-100 mph in just 10.6 seconds (0-160 km/h in 10.5 seconds).
The six-speed transmission can be left in two fully automatic modes (Drive and Sport) or used as a clutchless manual where the driver can change gears sequentially, via either the gearlever or paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

The advanced continuous all-wheel drive system of both GTC models provides exceptional traction in all weathers. The drive is transferred between the front and rear axles via a highly sensitive centre Torsen differential. If the differential detects a deviation in torque demand between the two axles it automatically sends more power to the wheels with greater grip.

The 'Sport Traction' mode for the GTC moderates ESP intervention at low speeds, benefiting driver interaction and control, particularly on low traction surfaces. The 'Dynamic Mode' of the GTC Speed allows increased wheel slip at higher speeds compared to the standard chassis. This ensures that torque is reinstated more quickly, allowing the driver to exploit the full potential of the engine.

A luxury convertible with outstanding ride and handling
The Continental GTC's steel body has an exceptionally rigid torsional stiffness of around 30Hz that not only minimises 'scuttle shake' but provides a very stable platform for the aluminium-intensive suspension system, optimising its performance. Despite the boost in power and torque for the GTC Speed model, no changes to the body structure were required.
For the 552bhp (560PS) GTC, new low-friction dampers provide improved secondary ride (the response of the car to poor road surfaces) and even greater levels of comfort.

The Bentley Continental GTC Speed has a range of dynamic enhancements that deliver a more sporting, open-top Bentley driving experience. The retuned Continous Damping Control (CDC) system ensures that the body response matches the inputs from the new sports wheels and tyres, while improved body control reduces pitch and roll when cornering enthusiastically. In addition, stiffer rear axle bushes deliver better axle control and turn-in response.

The GTC Speed's suspension is lowered by 10 mm at the front and 15 mm at the rear for improved handling, while the retuned speed-sensitive steering system and solid-mounted front subframe, shared with the standard GTC, benefit steering response.
The wider 9.5J x 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, unique to the GTC Speed, are fitted with bespoke 275/35 ZR20 Pirelli PZero ultra-high performance tyres that provide the car with superior grip as well as sharper steering response and feel.

To ensure optimum aerodynamic balance at speeds up to 200 mph (322 km/h) the new GTC Speed is fitted with a discreet spoiler on the trailing edge of the bootlid. This provides additional downforce and increases the top speed.
For both models, Bentley's carbon-ceramic brakes (CCB) are offered as a cost option. Larger diameter (420 mm front, 356 mm rear), lightweight discs and eight-piston callipers offer fade-resistant braking performance with minimal disc distortion under high thermal conditions. A 20kg weight saving reduces unsprung mass and benefits steering response and handling. This braking system may only be specified with 20-inch diameter wheels and are the largest and most powerful brakes ever fitted to a production car.

The standard-fit tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) allows drivers to select tyre type and speed range parameters. As well as monitoring pressures, the system warns drivers if their speed is too high for the tyre pressures.
Subtle evolution of the GTC's distinctive style
Both the GTC and GTC Speed benefit from subtle revisions to their frontal appearance.
The matrix grille is now more vertical and has a more pronounced square edge that accentuates the distinctive Bentley profile. A new lower bumper design with a widened air intake reinforces the sporting stance of both GTC convertibles, complemented by new chrome headlamp bezels. The new design also provides a practical benefit by improving airflow to the more powerful Speed engine by 14 per cent.
The Bentley Continental GTC Speed has a unique set of design cues, notably a dark-tinted matrix grille to the upper and lower air intakes, a black lower bumper valance, wider, rifled exhaust tailpipes and 20-inch, silver-painted, multi-spoke alloy wheels. The wheels are available as an option with a special dark tint finish.
GTC and GTC Speed customers have a choice of 17 'standard' paint colours including two new colours (Aquamarine and Blue Crystal).

The luxurious hand-crafted cabin
The cabins of both GTC and GTC Speed are available with a choice of 6 natural, unbleached, laser-cut wood veneers and 17 premium grade leather hides, Aquamarine.

The GTC Speed's cabin is based on that of the Mulliner Driving Specification (a cost option on the standard GTC). It features diamond quilted hide seats with embroidered Bentley emblems, a knurled chrome and hide gearlever and a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with brushed aluminium switch surround. These are complemented by drilled alloy foot-pedals and 'Speed' logos to the polished treadplates. The standard GTC also receives a new Bentley 'B' brake pedal.

New adaptive cruise control system
A sophisticated follow-to-stop, radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system is now available on both GTC and GTC Speed. It uses a long-range radar sensor, mounted in the lower front grille, to monitor the road ahead for other vehicles. When a slower moving vehicle is detected, the system automatically adjusts the throttle or brakes to maintain a 'time gap', as selected by the driver.
