German luxury car maker BMW on Thursday introduced its cheapest model in India, a new sports utility vehicle. The vehicle will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. While the petrol option, BMW X1 sDrive 18i, will be available for Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, all-India), the diesel variant will have two options, X1 sDrive 20d, priced at Rs 23.9 lakh and X1 sDrive 20d Exclusive priced at Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom, all-India).
it is also the most practical model for India thanks to its high ground clearance and compact dimensions. Have already generated a good interest among buyers and have received over 1,000 bookings which has already created a waiting period of three months.
The diesel engine gives a power of 177 BHP and torque of 350 Nm from 1750 to 3000 rpm. The petrol engine gives a power of 150 BHP with a torque of 200 Nm at 3600 rpm. BMW claims that the diesel variant takes 8.3 seconds to attain a speed of 100 kmph whereas the petrol variant takes 10.4 seconds. All variants have six speed automatic gearboxes.
The ARAI average fuel efficiency stat for the diesel X1 is more than 15km to the litre while for the petrol it is 11+. All variants are ‘sDrive’ meaning that they feature rear-wheel drive unlike xDrive which is all-wheel drive.
